Ignik Firecan And Gas Growler Review: The NEW Way To Camp (2024)

Ignik is one of those brands that makes products that just make sense, and are a joy to use – assuming you’re someone who has a passion for spending time outdoors, whether that’s camping, fishing, enjoying vanlife, overlanding, or something else entirely.

The brand is most well-known for its sustainable campfire and refillable fuel products, that help to reduce waste (those green disposable propane camping bottles), are enjoyable to use and should last a lifetime.

Other brands I consider to be in this category of cool outdoors products that create great products I’ve reviewed and continue to use include High Camp Flasks, Full Windsor Magware, Rux, Biolite, Solo Stove, Ooni and Rocky Talkie to name a few (that’s by no means an exhaustive list).

In this review I’m sharing my experience using two of Ignik’s popular products for people who enjoy playing (or work) in the outdoors, the Ignik Firecan Elite (a portable gas fire pit) and the Ignik Gas Growler Deluxe (a refillable 5lb propane gas tank in a protective case) – pictured below.

These two products are designed to work together, but of course the gas growler can be used with any appliance that uses a propane tank, including other gas fire pits, grills, gas-fired pizza ovens and more.

About Ignik Outdoors

Before I jump into my review of those products, I want to share a few cool facts about PNW-based Ignik.

Ignik’s founders were inspired to create their first products as the result of seeing the impact of climate change and human waste on the natural world, during an epic family sailing voyage across the Arctic seas, which you can read more about here.

They also support a number of environmental causes, such as the National Forest Foundation. As an example, in an effort to further protect our forests, Ignik is donating $10,000 from its FireCan line sales to the National Forest Foundation’s Reforestation Program. Sales from Ignik’s FireCan, FireCan Deluxe, and FireCan Elite will support planting 10,000 new trees, some of which will replace trees destroyed by wildfires.

If you’re curious about the brand, then as well as learning more about these products in this review, I encourage you to check out their full product range – they have so many innovative and useful high-end camping products to explore.

Ignik Firecan Elite Review

Ignik offers 3 types of Firecan:

  • Firecan – the original powder coated Firecan
  • Firecan Deluxe – all stainless steel, and designed to be a grill you can cook on, as well as a firepit
  • Firecan Elite – my one, and the latest model, with improved performance and weight, and a different burner shape.

All are ‘forest-safe’ alternatives to portable fire rings.

My version, the Firecan Elite, is the lightest of the three, weighing 9.2lb, and is the middle-priced option, at $249. For a more detailed comparison of the three types of Firecan, visit this product page on their website, and scroll down to check that out.

The first thing you notice about the Firecan Elite is its compact size. With that light weight of 11lb, and dimensions of 12 x 6 x 7.5 inches, this rectangular portable firepit is highly portable and easily stored with your other camping gear for transporting or in your garage when not in use.

This particular model is stainless steel with an anodized aluminum lid, which helps keep the weight down, and includes a handle on the top for ease of carrying.

The four fold-out legs keep it elevated from the ground, so the flames are closer to you, and the heat and flames are kept well off the ground.

Perforations in the stainless steel sides ensure this gas camping fire pit’s heat is distributed out to the side, not just the top where the flames emerge.

The oval shaped burner kicks out up to around 50,000 BTU, which is huge for a unit this small! Unlike the other types of Firecan, it also features a flame control on the unit itself, rather than using a dial on on the regulator hose.

Let me tell you something not so secret if you ever buy one, the flames roar like a beast, even on the lowest flame setting it puts out an intense flame and a lot of heat.

The images in this review show the Firecan Elite on its lowest flame setting – so, you can image what the high setting it like – Oooh la la! 🔥

The hose is easily attached and removed using its quick-release connector, which is also compact and means you can fold the house up and store it efficiently without having a flapping hose remaining connected to your firepit when not in use.

My version of the Firecan, the Firecan Elite, costs $250 and is available to buy direct from Ignik on their website, where you can also check prices and availability of their other Firecan models.

Ignik Gas Growler Deluxe Review

Ignik’s gas growlers are refillable, no-waste solutions for heat and cooking outdoors. If you’re used to buying those disposable green propane bottles for camping and other outdoors activities, then you probably already know their disadvantages, which include being wasteful single-use products, a pain to store and transport efficiently, and a pain to dispose of correctly.

The Ignik Gas Growler range is designed to replace the need for buying those 1lb green gas bottles – or simply to provide a compact, refillable gas tank to take on your outdoor adventures, without lugging around a large Blue Rhino or other full-size propane tank.

Speaking of the range, my version, the Gas Growler Deluxe, is a 5lb tank. You can get smaller (e.g. the 3.8lb tank) or larger (e.g. the 10lb tank) versions if you have different needs, but 5lb is going to suit many people.

As well as being a refillable tank, the Gas Growler comes with a protective zippered case that makes it much easier to transport and store your tank, with a carry strap and a place to store the included 4ft hose for the tank.

You can also buy the growler/canisters without a case, if you prefer – although based on my experience (how I’ve used it), I believe the case is a key element of what makes this product so versatile and easy to transport.

My 5lb gas growler 5.0 deluxe, in its own case, costs $130 and is available in black or white when you buy it directly from Ignik.
